So LSS, I have my first "big" reel, a 50exw, and now need to fill it.
I will be looking up what I can find on "best products and methods" using searches but thought I would start here.
Yep, my first rodeo. I am a fan of common sense but realize it ain't a trout reel, or a bit bigger, and that is the extent of my experience.
Thinking 60-75% braid. I have never used braid. Hate to load it loose. Sounds like a goat screw in the making to do so.....
Any input and advice is much appreciated.

Damo

I use Power Pro topped off with mono on all my reels. My big shark reels have 50-100 yards on mono, and my trout reels have around 4' of flouro on the end.

i don't use the power pro, just mono...all my smaller rigs are mono P-line in 10# test...

i have a 6500 that i have 20#BG

my larger reels are either 40, 60 or 80# test (mono) topped off with a shock leader, mainly 100# of something.

If cost is a part of the decision making go with 60lb big game.

If not load that puppy up with 100lb PP or TuffLine xp and top it off with 100 lb mono.

Good info you guys.
I'm not good at being fiscally responsible, hence the choice of reel, so PP should not be a problem. Why stop now.....
Do you tie or tape mono to spool until it is covered and then go to the PP or PP straight on the spool?
Plus I have heard to load the PP tight and wet. (no pun intended)
Not quite sure how to do both at the same time but can always figure something out.

Thanks,
Damo

I just put some electrical tape on the spool then the braid.

Put the spool of braid in a bucket of water. Let it soak then put it on the reel.
